Instructions regarding conversion of PIO card into OCI card

1. It is to inform that the erstwhile PIO cardholders with a valid PIO card as on 09/01/2015 are deemed to be OCI cardholders in terms of Government of India (GOI) ‘Notification’. As per the instructions issued, such erstwhile PIO cardholders are required to upload only two documents with his/her application for grant of OCI card in lieu of PIO card i.e. (1) copy of the valid Passport and (2) copy of the PIO card.

2. In view of the above, all PIO cardholders are deemed to be OCI cardholders in terms of the ‘Notification’ issued by the GOI on 9th January 2015. The applicants can submit the applications online from anywhere and will have to upload only prescribed two documents as mentioned above and payment of fee as applicable. The OCI card shall be issued within the jurisdiction of the applicant’s place of residence. The applicant will have to approach Indian Mission for collecting the OCI card by surrendering the PIO card.
